“Return to Tiffany” Bracelets

These iconic bracelets got their start in 1966, when Tiffany & Co. first began to sell key tags with the now-iconic phrase, “Please Return to Tiffany & Co. New York” written on them. Each key tag was given a unique number, ensuring that if someone’s keys were returned to Tiffany’s, their owner could be found. That same year, an advertisement showcased a heart-shaped “Return to Tiffany” tag as a Valentine’s Day gift, and in 1967, an oval tag was introduced. In 1969, Tiffany advertised a heart-shaped tag with a registered code number and a keychain, however, the first jewelry incorporating the famous tag and phrase wasn’t introduced until 1980, when the company debuted a 14k yellow gold heart-shaped pendant necklace bearing the phrase. In 1997, Tiffany introduced the modern sterling silver choker necklace bearing an oval “Return to Tiffany” tag. The unique registration number was replaced with a standard engraving of “925” – a reference to the standard for silver that Tiffany established in the United States. In the early 2000s, the collection was expanded and quickly achieved iconic status. While “Return to Tiffany” bracelets are not currently a trend, they do remain a classic accessory.
